Therapies & Modalities
Maryland offers a wide range of integrative cancer treatments, including acupuncture, massage, yoga, and mindfulness. Several major medical institutions in Maryland provide integrative cancer treatment that combines evidence-based complementary therapies with conventional oncology. Acupuncture is available at Vital You Integrative Cancer Care, specifically for treatment-related side effects like nausea and pain. Maryland also has several specialized clinics providing integrative oncology that combines conventional cancer treatments with complementary therapies.
Our program’s focus is on improving physical, mental, and spiritual health during and after cancer treatment. Treatment sessions may include acupuncture, massage, yoga, and mindfulness, all of which support physical well-being, manage symptoms, and aid recovery. Oncology massage techniques are provided at UM St. Joseph Medical Center and The Vine Natural Health Center to help relieve pain, fatigue, and stress. Acupuncture is effective for symptoms such as pain, nausea, vomiting, and radiation-induced dry mouth. Yoga can improve flexibility, strength, and overall wellbeing, while meditation helps reduce stress and improve sleep and mood. Mind-body therapies such as tai chi are available at cancer centers like the University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center and GBMC. The University of Maryland’s Center for Integrative Medicine offers guided imagery, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and meditation.
Dr. Stephany Porter and Dr. Aminah Keats are board-certified naturopathic oncology specialists. Mistletoe Therapy is offered at Vital You Cancer Care. Proper nutrition and movement therapies are important for helping patients better tolerate aggressive traditional treatments. Nutrition and lifestyle counseling are central to programs at Shady Grove Adventist Aquilino Cancer Center and Integrative Medicine at Crossroads. Holistic therapies, including nutrition, psychological counseling, and social services, are provided at UM St.
We guide patients forward through each step of the program, ensuring a comprehensive approach to integrative cancer treatment in Maryland.
