The philosophy behind Functional Medicine is to look at presenting symptoms with a causation mindset. If the condition is depression, and we treat the depression with Omega 3s, Vitamin D, or prescription medication, we’re no closer to discovering why it was presenting at all. What was the cause?
In the field of Functional Medicine, we look at depression as one of many conditions for which there could be one single cause. For example, inflammation can cause or influence arthritis, depression, heart disease, and even cancer. By treating the inflammation, the patient will experience a reduction in the other conditions.

Every patient’s medical, mental, and spiritual history is unique and so is their path to feeling better. Our Deluxe Membership is a minimum of 4 months to allow for all the necessary testing, planning, implementation, and adjustments to take place.
We find that in that time, most patients experience significant relief and are on their way to lasting vitality. However, depending on the severity of the presenting conditions and underlying causes, 6 months or more should be expected.
The number of lab tests required will depend on each patient’s unique condition, medical history, and how long they’ve been experiencing the issues at hand. Typically, between 2 and 4 Functional Medicine lab tests are recommended and most lab kits can be completed at home.
Each test takes approximately 2 to 4 weeks for results to be shared. Melissa will share results with each patient as soon as possible with a video so the patient can prepare questions for the next visit.
Telehealth is a platform that facilitates a visit between the client and healthcare provider virtually when the client prefers this to an in-person visit. Physical exam is limited, but otherwise the same goals can be met during a Telehealth visit.
Telehealth is available to clients who are located in Maryland or Florida at the time of the “visit.”
We are considered “out of network” and our practice does not work with insurance companies. We want you to enjoy the freedom to decide the best therapeutic options for your medical needs without the variable constraints of insurance companies. To facilitate you receiving any authorized insurance benefits, our staff will provide you with a “superbill” with the appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes upon request.
The “superbill” enables you to submit a claim to your insurance company for reimbursements. Insurance companies offer variable reimbursement; you should check with your insurance company prior to your appointment.
Please note that Medicare beneficiaries are not entitled to any reimbursement for the services we provide. Thus, fees for services rendered will be your sole responsibility.
Due to the overwhelming requests for new patient consultations and the length of our appointments, there is a strict cancellation policy.
NEW PATIENTS who cancel within 7 days of an appointment forfeit a deposit of $150 from the cost of the appointment and any remainder will be refunded to the credit card on file.
ESTABLISHED PATIENTS who cancel within 72-hours of an appointment are responsible to pay 100% of the scheduled service.
There is no fee to reschedule or cancel an appointment if requested outside of the time stated in cancellation policy.
No refund is available for bulk discount packages or membership commitments (e.g. 5-visit package or 3 month minimum of Premium Membership).
